For the Love of Colour
Wendy Busch, Claire Lefebvre, Edward Niznik & Polly Hollyoak
Gallerysmith Project Space, North Melbourne 2015
ARTISTS' STATEMENT
Busch, Lefebvre, Nizinik and Hollyoak’s’ practices are seemingly very different.
Busch’s work deals with the alienation and insecurity involved in self-perception;
Niznik’s landscapes seek to portray the natural world as a gateway to greater
understanding of the physical and spiritual aspects of being; Lefebvre’s
contemplative works deal with the creation of immersive spaces for wonderment
and meditation; and Hollyoak’s with the world of consumption evoking notions
of desire.
These artists are intrigued by the diverse ways in which colour can communicate.
This exhibition seeks to celebrate their differences and similarities as they
investigate how colour can stimulate, alienate, intrigue, provoke and entice.
The collaborative works created for this exhibition is the outcome of four disparate
painting practices, creating hybrid compositions that question notions of authorship
and challenging our individual practices
